DAN has arrived! The Dyslexia Adult Network (DAN) is a new collaboration of major UK dyslexia charities, together with six specialists. We aim to draw attention to the waste of potential arising from lack of awareness and poor support of adults with dyslexia and related specific learning differences. This impacts on all of us. Why? Poor support and lack of awareness about adult dyslexia means that many people are failing to lead productive lives – efforts are blocked and potential is lost.
The problems arising from adult dyslexia can have serious consequences – ranging from frustration and lack of fulfilment to lack or loss of employment, financial hardship, distress and despair. Poor education and limited employment prospects are known to be a factor in criminality.
This should not be happening in the 21st century!
DAN aims to bust myths on dyslexia, improve awareness and show how people with dyslexia can apply their strengths and abilities, rather than be challenged by their very specific differences. These skills are beneficial to the economy, the workplace and to society as a whole.
Together, we can make a difference – and change lives.
